Kids Zumba Dance Party!

Come join the fun and dance the afternoon away with all your Carver friends at the annual Zumba Kids Dance Party!!  Carver mom and certified Zumba instructor Alicia Mata will be leading the kids with easy dance steps so no dance experience is necessary.  Kids love to dance and won't even know that they are exercising and burning calories! Healthy refreshments will be served during the party to keep the kids energized.  Let’s Zumba!

Caltech Science Lab Experiment

March 29th, 2019 - 4:00-6:00pm, caltech
$150 per child (limit 12)

Your child will get the special opportunity to conduct a science experiment at a real laboratory at the world renowned campus of Caltech.  The science lab experiment will be directed by Ph.D. students in Prof. Greer’s group. Snacks and a tour of lab facilities will be provided. 3rd-5th graders only

Eaton Canyon Hike with Ms. Suzuki

Love nature?  Join Ms. Suzuki on this leisurely hike and learn about plants, animals, and rocks that are found at Eaton Canyon!

  • Transportation to and from the site to be provided by the parent.

  • Every child MUST be accompanied by a parent during the entire hike.

  • Hike will be rescheduled if it rains.

  • Please bring a minimum of 1 Liter of water.

  • Snacks will be provided.

Pirate Treasure Hunt at the Library

STEM Carnival

April 4, 2019 - 3:00pm-5:00pm, carver elementary
$100 per child (Limit 92)

Are you ready to take chances, make mistakes, get messy, and have a lot of fun at Carver's STEM Carnival?!

Come join us for an afternoon of interactive and hands on STEM activities that will get your brain moving! Children will be divided by age and will explore several STEM activity booths.  Snacks will be provided. Younger children will be watched from 2:30pm-3pm until the carnival begins.

The 10 stations will include:

  • Electromagnet station: Building electromagnets

  • Battery station: Older students build a wet cell battery, younger students will use D cell batteries to complete circuits

  • Calorimeter station: Students learn the definition of a Calorie (the amount of energy to raise 1L of water 1 degree C), and then use a calorimeter to measure how many calories are in a potato chip.

  • Carbon Dioxide station: Students use Bromthymol Blue (BTB), which is an indicator solution to show evidence of carbon dioxide gas in their exhalation. Photosynthesis demo showing plants absorbing CO2. Dry ice property discussion including phase change, sublimation and density.

  • Maglev Train station: Students use the repelling forces of like poles of magnets to build a cart to travel over a magnetic track. Student build and test various cart designs to optimize the amount of mass their cart can carry along the track.

  • Light station: Students learn that white light is a blend of all colors of light. Demo of a prism splitting white light into the color spectrum. Student use boxes and colored film to test all colors of light have the same amount of energy.

  • Microscope station: Younger students can look at prepared slides and slides of pond water. Older students can prepare their own stained slides of onion or cheek cells.

  • Static Electricity station: Student use wool socks to charge PVC pipes with negative charge they can then use to bend a stream of water, make an aluminum can roll off the table, and make confetti jump.

  • Slime station: Model how slime works using paper clips. Individual paper clips model monomers, paper clip chains are polymers, and cross linked chains of paper clips model cross linked polymers. Students will make slime to take home.

  • Engineering Grabbers station: Engineering challenge to design a grabber out of paper, tape and string.

Chinese Dumpling Making and Mahjong

Want to learn how to make dumplings? We will teach you how! Come join us for a behind the scenes "mini Kitchen" at Sylvia Koh's house. All of the tools, ingredients and demonstrations provided.  You will learn how to make the southern style Wonton, and the traditional northern style dumplings. All you have to do is come ready for the fun and challenge! Leave with a plate of dumplings that you crafted from the class AND a full stomach of our pre made dumpling feast! We will also be playing mahjong as we enjoy our dumplings!

Slimeology Pizza Party

No MESS, no FUSS at home!   Carver alumni expert Slimeologists Keidyn, Bailey & Kailey will help your slimeologist in-training make a huge mess of their very own.  Each slimeologist will learn to make 3 perfect batches of slime (Butter Slime, Floam Slime and Custom Clear Slime) to take home in containers for hours of continued fun! Pizza will also be served.

Sushi Making Party for Kids

Do you know a sushi fanatic?  At this party, all the sushi-loving kids will make one-of-a-kind sushi with all of their favorite ingredients and will get to eat their creations!  The very simple temaki sushi (hand roll) and rolls will be made. Your child might even surprise you with some sushi for you!

Please NO children with seafood/shellfish allergies please, as sashimi will be served.

Carver/Valentine Flag Football Skills Training Clinic

Your child will have a great time learning flag football skills and play a friendly flag football game with other Carver and Valentine students.  They will also get the rare opportunity to get some tips/training from top current collegiate athletes including:

Rose Princess Afternoon Tea Party

Rose Princess Afternoon Tea Party with our very own Tournament of Roses Court Princess and San Marino resident, Sherry Ma

Put on your special afternoon tea attire for a delightful rose princess afternoon tea with fellow Carver students.  Your child will enjoy a traditional British afternoon tea at the home of Ava Newton. Scrumptious child friendly teas, tea sandwiches and delicacies  will be served.   Joining us that afternoon, we will have our very own rose princess from this year's Tournament of Roses court!  This year's San Marino rose princess - Sherry Ma, a San Marino High School student will be present to inspire the girls, answer questions, and even teach the girls the signature Rose Parade wave!  In addition, the children will enjoy playing Rose princess tea games and will be making their very own mini Rose Parade float.  Your child won’t want to miss this unique opportunity!
